Royal Ingwe River Lodge

As dawn crescendos with birdsong, the morning sun awakens Earth’s creatures – big and small – that await you on game drives, guided walking safaris and private bird hide excursions. As you immerse yourself in Africa’s wilderness, each moment becomes a life-defining experience. Come nightfall, nature serenades you beneath its celestial canopy.

Our five-star lodge and private villa are sanctuaries that prioritise sustainability through their use of locally-sourced natural resources and handmade furnishing using local craftsmanship, while curating a sense of peaceful serenity.

Your private retreat promises an immersive odyssey into the self and Mother Nature, whether you’re on an intimate getaway or family adventure. As a family-owned and run establishment, we are defined by our warm-hearted team whose genuine hospitality and intimate knowledge of South Africa honours all that we do.

As stewards of this land, our commitment to conservation, community engagement and sustainable tourism extends beyond the borders of Olifants West Nature Reserve; it defines our innate ethos to promote wildlife conservation and biodiversity, while advocating for mindful exploration of the natural world while on safari.

I would like to start off by saying that this has been one of the most memorable travel experiences of my life. Me and my wife visited here during our honeymoon and were really looking forward to our time here and the staff made our experience even better than we could have imagined. For starters, the lodge is ABSOLUTELY Beautiful. Even our driver was amazed at how beautiful the lodge was after dropping us off. We were greeted upon entry by the entire staff, including the owner! The staff made us feel welcomed and comfortable from the first day and throughout the entirety of the trip...

On our trip to South Africa this year, we wanted to try out a new lodge in a different area than just Sabie Sands. Knowing that a new lodge always carries a certain risk, we are glad we made this decision. The new Royal Ingwe River Lodge was a real hit. Unique location right on the Olifants River (not 200 m away), spacious and very tasteful new lodge complex. Modern comfort has been combined with classic African architecture with great sensitivity. With only a maximum of 14 guests on the extensive grounds, you have the good feeling that you are really being accommodated exclusively. Even if the game drives are the real highlights, we were impressed by the Olifants West Nature Reserve with its very varied terrain. Not just large flat areas, but also very hilly in places and then the drive along the seemingly endless river bank under giant trees that are centuries old, we will never forget.
